The Awards are in memory of “one of the most anarchic figures of his era” - “the greatest influence on British comedy over the last 25 years” and the “godfather to a generation of comic talent".
The 2011 judges are Kate Copstick (The Scotsman), John Fleming (co-author of Malcolm's autobiography), Dominic Maxwell (The Times) and Jay Richardson (The List / The Scotsman). |

FOR WHAT?
|
The main award is “for comic originality of thought or performance” - for comedic talent and potential. It is for performers who, in the opinion of the judges, have not yet been given the attention they deserve and who have some potential for continuing and - hey! - perhaps even developing their act.
The winning act (probably an individual) does not need to have the potential to become a major mainstream star although he or she could have that potential. It is an award for people who deserve to succeed (either as cults or as stars) and who deserve to have their potential recognised and nurtured but who have not yet received their due recognition. |

MALCOLM'S CHILDREN
FRANK & POPPY HARDEE say: "One of our dad's greatest qualities was finding and supporting new talent. This award in honour of our father will hopefully help to continue to promote new, exciting and slightly eccentric comedy acts at one of the world's most famous comedy festivals.
MALCOLM HARDEE AWARD BY A WARD AWARDED AWARD
 |
At the annual Fringe Report Awards at the Leicester Square Theatre in London on 8th February 2010, the equally annual Malcolm Hardee Awards won an award because, according to the citation, they "have injected a much-needed serum of anarchy into the taking-it-way-too-seriously world of performance awards". The Awards are designed by John Ward. |
Also receiving an award on the evening was Lewis Schaffer, 2009 Malcolm Hardee Cunning Stunt award-winner for best publicity stunt at the Edinburgh Fringe. Last night he likewise won a Fringe Report award for 'Best Publicity Stunt'. Lewis, a New York Jew, was unable to attend so naturally chose Frank Sanazi to accept the award on his behalf - that'll be the Frank Sanazi who looks like Adolf Hitler and sings like Frank Sinatra... of course.

THE DESIGNER OF THE AWARDS
JOHN WARD has been hailed by Time-Life as “possibly the best English eccentric inventor living today”. He vividly remembers a curry Malcolm cooked him many years ago. He explains the design of the Award in a 30 second video HERE. John's website is HERE |
